Alex Padilla called up to Mexico Under-23s

The Bilbao Athletic goalkeeper, born in Zarautz but with roots in the state of Chihuahua on his mother's side, has been called up to the 'Tricolor' for the first time

Bilbao Athletic goalkeeper Alex Padilla has been called up to Mexico's Under-23 side for the first time. The Mexicans will play two friendly matches against Argentina. The first, on 22 March in Mazatlán, and the second, on 25 March in Puebla.

Born in Zarautz, Alex was three months old when his parents, Iñaki Padilla and Armida Perez, decided to move to Camargo, in the state of Chihuahua, where the Pérez family has its roots. The goalkeeper spent the first seven years of his life there. His father, Iñaki, is from Bergara in the Basque Country. 

After returning to his hometown, Padilla came through the ranks at CD Zarautz before joining Athletic Club, where he has turned out for the Under-18s, CD Basconia and Bilbao Athletic, as well as taking part in the last two pre-seasons with the first team.
