First official Athletic fan club in Korea

First official Athletic fan club in Korea

A group of 13 Athleticzales in South Korea have founded the club’s first ever supporters’ group in the country

Athletic Club is delighted to welcome Peña Athletic Club Korea to the family. Although officially based in Incheon, a city southwest of Seoul, the supporters’ group has 13 members spread out across South Korea in places such as Seoul, Busan and Jeju Island.

The group traces its origins back to 2012 when they set up a website to keep Korean Athleticzales up to date with everything going on in Bilbao. They also have an active X account (@AthleticKOR) and a lively WhatsApp group.

Peñista Wonjun Choi visited San Mames for the first time last season, with the club gifting him a retro jersey signed by the senior team.

Speaking about becoming an official supporters’ club, various members reiterated they are keen to grow and reach new supporters in Korea.

They said: “We will work hard to promote Athletic’s values and we hope to reach and communicate with more Athleticzales in Korea in the future. Even though Korea is 9,000 kilometres from the Basque Country, we share the same enthusiasm for supporting Athletic.”

Peña Athletic Club Korea is the 16th official fan club outside the Basque Country and Spanish state, and the second in the Far East after Peña Tokiotarrak, which was formed in 2014.
