The Opponents

Founded in 1916, RCD Mallorca are the oldest club in the Balearic islands. In total, Los Bermellones have spent 30 seasons in LaLiga.

Mallorca's golden era began in 1997/98 and they remained in the top flight for 16 campaigns, in which time they twice qualified for the Champions League and won their only Copa in 2002/03. Furthermore, in 1998/99, the Balearic islanders were runners-up in the Cup Winners' Cup, losing 1-2 to Lazio in the final.

Copa 2023/24: Mallorca started this year's Copa with a 0-4 win over CD Boiro. In the second and third round, they managed 0-3 wins over Valle de Egüés and Burgos CF, respectively.

Los Bermellones overcame CD Tenerife 0-1 in the Round of 16 thanks to an extra-time strike by Cyle Larin. They followed that up with a 3-2 win over Girona FC in the quarter-finals.

In the semi-finals they drew Real Sociedad. Two 0-0 draws led to Mallorca knocking the Basque side out of the competition on penalties at the Reale Arena.

Previous Meetings: This is the first time we have faced Mallorca in a Copa final. Our overall record against the Balearic islanders in the Copa stands at three wins, one draw and two defeats, with seven goals for and five against. The last meeting came in the quarter-finals of the 2011/12 Copa, where Athletic progressed after winning 2-0 at San Mames and 0-1 at Son Moix.
