Valverde: "We must be ready to go again"
The Athletic Club head coach previewed Sunday's clash with Real Valladolid at the Estadio José Zorrilla
Athletic Club head coach Ernesto Valverde wants to see his side build some positive momentum as the Lions get ready to face Real Valladolid in LaLiga after a midweek journey to Bulgaria in the Europa League.
The Zurigorri came from behind to beat Ludogorets 1-2 in Razgrad but have needed to quickly change their focus to Sunday's clash at the Estadio José Zorilla (18:30 CET).
"We have to be sharp and focus on this fixture now that Thursday's match is behind us," Valverde said.
"We must be ready to go again That's the most difficult thing. We'll bring in some fresh players with the idea of maintaining our level."
Despite the demands of playing two competitions, the gaffer believes his players "are holding up well physically".
He added: "At the moment we're doing well in both competitions. Our main objective is to stay in a good position in LaLiga, and we're also optimistic about Europe.
"We're playing away from home, a lot of fans will be travelling and we have to respond to all that. We have to be mentally prepared. Overcoming tests gives you fuel, makes you optimistic and makes your legs feel less heavy. We have good prospects."
Sunday's opponents are currently 19th in the standings and two points away from safety. Valverde reiterated that it will be a challenging duel.
"We all need points for one reason or another," he said. "Valladolid try to play good football and they attack well. They have quality players."
