Padilla extends contract at Athletic Club until 2029

The young shotstopper adds three more years to his current agreement after breaking into the first-team squad this season

Goalkeeper Alex Padilla, 21, has put pen to paper on a new deal which will keep him at Athletic Club until 30 June 2029, extending his current contract by a further three seasons. 

Padilla has made constant progress since joining Athletic from from his hometown club Zarautz KE at Under-19 level. The shotstopper stepped up to make his first-team debut this season, appearing five times in total so far in 2024/25.

Padilla's breakthrough under Ernesto Valverde was marked by a brilliant debut against Getafe CF at San Mamés, followed by more outstanding displays against FC Barcelona, RC Celta, Sevilla FC and Girona FC. Half-Mexican on his mother's side, Alex's performances saw him called up to the Mexico senior national team.

The 21-year-old signed his new contract at Ibaigane on Friday evening, together with Athletic Club president Jon Uriarte and director football Mikel Gonzalez.

In line with the Board's approach to new contracts, Alex Padilla's contract has a salary structure with an objective-based bonuses.
