De Marcos becomes second most capped Athletic player ever

The right-back has overtaken Iker Muniain in the rankings after making a 561st appearance, only Iribar has played more matches for Athletic

Óscar de Marcos has further cemented his place as an Athletic Club legend. The right-back and current captain made his 561st official appearance as a Lion against Real Valladolid, which sees him move above Iker Muniain into second place in the club's all-time rankings.

The 35-year-old defender has achieved the feat after an incredible 16 years playing for Athletic Club's men's first team.

Legendary goalkeeper Jose Angel Iribar, with 614 appearances, is the only footballer that has pulled on an Athletic shirt more often.

From that first training camp back in 2009 until La Gabarra  celebration last season, it's been a  long journey with many amazing moments: Copa champion, two Supercopas, runner-up in the Europa League, four times runner-up in the Copa, one Champions League campaign, eight years competing in Europe in total... and now, a privileged place in Athletic Club history.
