"Boise", new book published by Athletic Club Foundation
The Athletic Club Foundation officially unveiled its new book, ‘Boise: Three stories about the diaspora’, with an event at San Mames
On Wednesday morning, the Athletic Club Foundation presented its latest publication with an event at San Mames. The Basque-language book, called "Boise – Diasporako hiru ipuin” (Boise: Three stories about the diaspora), was written by Nerea Ibarzabal, Xabi Paya and Onintza Enebeita – who was unable to attend the event – and published in collaboration with the Provincial Council of Bizkaia.
The book launch was attended by around 300 students from local schools.
As on previous occasions, the book will be distributed free of charge to schools and educational centres that request it. To do so, please send an email to [email protected]. It will also be available to download from the ‘Letters and Football’ festival website.
A work of fiction inspired by the Basque diaspora
‘Boise’ is a work of fiction comprising three separate stories which explore a range of interconnected themes, such as the Basque diaspora, the Basque language, and the experiences of the Athletic Club’s women’s under-16s team that travelled to Idaho alongside various club representatives for Jaialdi 2025.
The round table was led by the artist Jon Maia, whilst Nerea Ibarzabal and Xabi Paya shared a number of interesting anecdotes regarding both the trip and the writing process.
Nerea Ortiz, Athletic Club's vice-president, Johana Ruiz Olabuenaga, head of community relations, and Galder Reguera, director of the ‘Letters and Footbal’ festival, were attended the presentation.
The book launch is part of the literature festival taking place this week and is also part of Fundazioa’s 'Educational Programme'.
Fundazioa's 'Educational Programme'
As part of the ‘Educational Programme’, and in connection with ‘Letters and Football’, the Foundation publishes books written by Athletic players or authors with a relation to the club. These works bring together stories, reflections and experiences related to football and its values.
‘Boise’ is the most recent example of these publications.
