The new head coach arrives with his right-hand man from Borussia Dortmund and a coach from Bayern Munich whilst the Athletic legend will be responsible for player development
Edin Terzić has assembled his coaching staff for his first season at Athletic Club. The new coach is already working in Lezama with two of his most trusted assistants, Sebastian Geppert, who accompanied him on his successful journey in the Borussia Dortmund dugout, and Peter Gaydarov, who comes from Bayern Munich’s youth academy.
His latest addition is one of the former Lions most admired by the fans and the changing room: Óscar de Marcos. Terzić has requestedthe retired full-back for the double mission of player development and connection with the squad.
German coach Sebastian Geppert, 42, will be assistant and head of analysis. He is Terzić's right-hand man, serving as his assistant coach across two seasons at Borussia Dortmund. Geppert worked for a decade at the German club, including eight years in the youth academy, where he coached a significant number of footballers who ended up playing at Signal Iduna Park.
Peter Gaydarov, 35, will be responsible for training and player transitions at Lezama. Gaydarov joins from Bayern Munich, where he has been coaching the Under-19 team and their side that participated in the Youth League this season. Peter accumulated six years of experience at the Bavarian club after a first job working at Nuremberg’s academy.
De Marcos, specifically requested by the head coach
Óscar de Marcos, who spent 16 seasons as a Lion winning three trophies, the footballer with second most appearances (573) in Athletic history after Jose Angel Iribar, has been hired by Edin Terzić, who sees the former captain as an ideal member of the coaching staff both for the players’ individual and collective development as well as for the process of adaptation and connection with the squad.
At 37 years old, one season after hanging up his boots, it will be De Marcos’ first experience as a coach.
