Athletic to kick off LaLiga 2026/27 against FC Barcelona at Camp Nou
Edin Terzić's Lions will start the 2026/27 LaLiga season by visiting FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou and will wrap up the campaign with a home match against Rayo Vallecano
Edin Terzić's Athletic Club will begin the 2026/27 LaLiga EA Sports season against FC Barcelona at Camp Nou on the weekend of 16 August and will end the campaign against Rayo Vallecano at San Mames on the weekend of 30 May.
This will be the 11th time the Lions have opened a LaLiga campaign against FC Barcelona and the fourth occasion we've done so in Catalunya. Our last first day visit to the Camp Nou was in the 1959/60 season, with Athletic losing 1-4. The most recent opening day encounter between both sides, two LaLiga founders and ever presents, came in 2019/20, when Aritz Aduriz helped the Zurigorri to a 1-0 victory with a spectacular late goal.
Athletic Club will bring the league season to a close against Rayo Vallecano in Bilbao on the weekend of 30 May.
As for the Basque derbies, we will face Real Sociedad at home on 1 November (Matchday 11) and away on 2 May (Matchday 34), Deportivo Alavés at San Mamés on 20 September (Matchday 7) and at Mendizorrotza on 7 March (Matchday 27), and CA Osasuna in Pamplona on 8 November (Matchday 12) and in Bilbao on 7 February (Matchday 23).
