Mikel González will remain as Director General of Football until 30 June 2030. Athletic Club has formalised the agreement reached with the Getxo native to continue at the helm of the sporting department, a place he entered on 22 November 2022.
Under his leadership, Athletic won a Copa title and qualified for the Champions League two seasons ago, both times with Ernesto Valverde as manager, and is now embarking on a new era under Edin Terzić.
As well as being ultimately responsible for planning the first-team squads, loan deals and transfers, Mikel González continues to lead the implementation of his department’s Strategic Plan, with a key focus on the medium and long term, which includes bringing players from all age groups into Lezama.
