Santos, Johaneko, Monreal and Gift will start pre-season with the first team
The reserve team players will begin training at Lezama on Monday the 6th, with Edin Terzić as their manager
Five players who played for Bilbao Athletic last season will begin pre-season training under Edin Terzić next Monday, the 6th. They are goalkeeper Mikel Santos (21), defenders Johaneko Louis-Jean (22) and Iker Monreal (20), and forward Elijah Gift (20).
Santos will be repeating the experience, having already taken part in pre-season training with the first team last summer and been part of Athletic’s European tours. Johaneko, for his part, played in several friendly matches during last season’s summer pre-season, whilst Monreal already knows what it’s like to wear the Athletic shirt in official competition after making two appearances for the first team in the Cup last season (against Valencia and Real Sociedad).
Another player who knows what it’s like to make his competitive debut for Athletic Club is Selton Sánchez. The midfielder, who had a superb UEFA Youth League campaign, played 13 competitive matches for the first team, three of them as a starter. His debut came at none other than St James’ Park, on Matchday 4 of the Champions League against Newcastle United.
Elijah Gift will also be taking on this new challenge after being named in the first-team squad on two occasions last season – for the Champions League match against Sporting Clube de Portugal and the LaLiga fixture against Real Madrid.
The four players will be looking to make the most of these first few weeks of training to continue developing under Edin Terzić and keep edging closer to the elite at Athletic Club.
