Edin Terzić: "We're feeling optimistic and positive about what promises to be a very special weekend for the city"

“We're ready. We're optimistic about the start of LaLiga on what will be a very special weekend for the city and the fans. We'll give it our all to earn our first three points. I have nothing but positive feelings heading into the match against Sevilla.” Edin Terzić expressed his hope ahead of the start of a new season, his debut as head coach of Athletic Club's first team.

The German hopes that all the work the Lions have put in during the preseason will show on the field at The Cathedral: “I’m really looking forward to getting started. My job is to support and push my team toward perfection. We’ll try to put on a great performance and play at a high level. If we do that, we’ll be close to winning.” 

The atmosphere at San Mames will once again be key to getting off to a good start. Terzić is aware that the Athletic fans will be cheering us on, as usual: “I can’t wait to experience San Mamés, I think you can tell. It’ll be my first time with a full stadium. So far, it’s just a building, but starting tomorrow, it’ll be home. I’m sure the fans will give it their all to cheer us on. As for us, it’s simple: we’ll try to play at a high level that people can relate to, that makes them happy to be part of it, and that everyone enjoys. Let’s go for it.” 

Tomorrow’s match against Sevilla is the first in a demanding opening stretch for Athletic, which will visit Barcelona and Vigo next week: “It all comes down to getting good results. Starting tomorrow, we’ll be fighting for points, and it’s very important for us to compete, that’s the priority. We have three games in eight days, and winning will give us confidence in what we’ve been working on.”
