Athletic Talks, the new video podcast in Athletic Play

Luis de la Fuente, who looks back on his 18 years at Athletic – first as a player over two spells, and later as academy's manager – is the first guest on this Athletic-themed talk show

The club’s on-demand television service, Athletic Play, continues to expand its audiovisual offering and, from this month, is launching a new video podcast in which current and former Athletic players and coaches, as well as prominent Athletic figures from other sectors, will reflect on their relationship with the club.

The first guest on this programme – which takes over from last year’s ‘Zurigorri Talks’ featuring Iribar and Iraizoz – is Luis de la Fuente, the current World Cup winner, who, in conversation with Galder Reguera and Cris García, reflects on his 18 years at Athletic, during which he has held various roles: youth academy player, two spells as a first-team footballer, during the first of which he was part of the team that won the league in the first half of the 1980s; coach, both of Bilbao Athletic and the youth team in the first decade of the 21st century; and first-team delegate alongside Joaquín Caparrós.

De la Fuente also discusses the international players in the current squad whom he has recently called up, and even goes so far as to put together an all-time Athletic dream team. The former left-back from the legendary team whose titles paved the way for the first ‘Gabarra’ trophy recounts his early experiences with great emotion.
