Athletic Club took on CA Osasuna in last year's final, which was held at Barakaldo's Lasesarre, with the Pamplona side winning 0-1.Los Rojiblancos’ and Los Rojillos currently top the list of Euskal Herria Txapela winners, with three trophies each, whilst Real Sociedad and SD Eibar both have one.

The final coincides with the international break, meaning both sides could go into the match without players that are on national team duty. For example, Spain will play the Czech Republic on October 3 and Croatia on October 10 in the Nations League.
