Players developed at Lezama account for 89.7 percent of Athletic's senior squad's value, almost 40 percent more than any other LaLiga team
Athletic Club players developed at our academy make up 89.7 percent of the first-team squad's entire market value according to Transfermarkt's rankings, which have also been shared by LaLiga.
It is the highest percentage among all clubs in LaLiga, and the gap between Athletic and the other sides is an incredible 40 percentage points.
Real Sociedad are in second place with 51.1 percent and FC Barcelona are third with 50.7 percent. To put it in perspective, the homegrown players' percentage share in terms of Athletic’s squad's total market value is 38.6 points higher than second-placed club and 39 points higher than third-placed team.
In monetary terms, according to Transfermarkt, Athletic’s academy products have a combined market value of €209 million. Only FC Barcelona’s €639 million exceeds this figure, although those players account for just 50.7 percent of Barça's total squad value.
A growing gap
The contrast increases exponentially when compared with the rest of the LaLiga teams. Homegrown players at Osasuna represent 30.1 percent of the squad's value, at Atlético de Madrid it's 16.1 per cent, at Real Betis it's 8.4 per cent, and at Real Madrid it's 6.7 per cent.
Athletic’s percentage is almost three times that of Osasuna, more five times that of Atlético Madrid and more than thirteen times that of Real Madrid.
