Guruzeta has not had an easy journey to success at Athletic Club. However, despite the difficult moments and setbacks, he has spent seven seasons with the first team following five years in the youth ranks at Lezama. What's more, he is the Lions’ top scorer over the last three seasons (with 41 goals in total) and is now the holder of a club record in Europe’s top competition (matching José Luis Artetxe’s tally of five goals in a single old European Cup campaign in just seven Champions League matches).
The striker recounts this journey in a conversation held at San Mamés with Etxahun Gonzalez and Galder Reguera. Gorka looks back at moments like his arrival to Lezama from Antiguoko at the age of 17, his first-team debut, the serious knee injury he suffered whilst playing for Bilbao Athletic, and his spells at Sabadell and Amorebieta before returning permanently in 2022 to firmly establish himself in the Zurigorri senior side.
