Athletic Club and UDG Tenerife battled it out in a great match at Lezama. The Primera Iberdrola leaders arrived with five consecutive wins under their belts. Villacampa’s side, with faith and lots of effort, managed to draw level, even though the score was 0-2 before the break. Lucía García’s brace brought a hard-fought game to a 2-2 draw.

The Lionesses came out very serious in the first half, playing fast in midfield and with precision. The aim was to grow into the game and Athletic dominated the leaders during a very demanding and intense first half hour. Athletic Club’s best chance came from Lucía García, who forced Aline Reis into a save. The Brazilian international sent the striker’s shot onto the crossbar.

The two almost consecutive setbacks that would befall the lionesses could not have been foreseen. In the 42nd minute, Natalia Ramos met Allegra’s cross at the far post to put the Canarians ahead. Just three minutes later, the visitors’ second goal arrived. Allegra stepped into the box and shot past Andrea de la Nava. Too much punishment for Villacampa’s team after their first half display.

After the break, Athletic tried to get back into the game, searching for at least one goal. From a corner, Valdezate had a great chance in the 71st minute, but her header went narrowly wide. Any further mistake could have been the final sentence. The physically powerful Tenerife side kept up their intensity despite the lead.

After a cross from Eunate, Lucía García was on hand to fire in a low shot to pull one back in the 78th minute. There was still time to turn the tide. With Eunate again on the left flank, Lucía took advantage of another ball. This time the international equalised in the 89th minute with her left foot. The draw tasted sweet, it was something that had not been achieved in the last three games. Next week there will be a break in play in the Primera Iberdrola and the Lionesses will be back in action against Atlético de Madrid.
