Wukro, day 13, the farewell

We awoke conscious that this adventure is coming to an end, today we began our return trip to Bilbao, but before that a triangular match was held between the 3 teams that have been training.
The intermediate aged team won. First they defeated the little ones by 1-0 and later the older ones by 2-0. On the other hand the older girls defeated the younger ones by 1-0, which is why they came in second. The tournament ended with the award ceremony and our battle cry (Alabin, Alaban, Alabin Bon Ban, Athletic, Athletic, and Geuria) and several typical local songs.
Later we returned to the mission to prepare our suitcases and we noticed that there was a girl, with whom we made friends, and who on the previous day had not come to play at the mission and we couldn’t say goodbye to her. Asking other children on the way, we decided to go to her house. When they opened the door, her face lit up when she saw us; she was as happy to see us as we were. The worst part was when we had to bid farewell, she didn’t seem very conscious that this would be the last time she would see us, but the rest of the children present knew. It’s been a very emotional moment. The farewell with some of the players has also not been an easy goodbye, nor with some of our playmates, the 10-year-old boy who’s been our guide and translator for 2 weeks. Darn farewells… more over if you don’t know if it’s a good bye or a so long.
We returned to have lunch at the mission and we said goodbye to our mates. Abbas, employees, aid workers…; just great people that have made our stay here so pleasant. We bid farewell to this adventure that has given us so many emotions and experiences. We have no doubt that we have received more than we have given, that we have learned more than we have taught; the lessons of life. Eskerrik asko, Wukro!
