It started as a result of the concern shown by the Athletic fan clubs in Gipuzkoa. Those meetings which sought to establish even more links with the red-and-white roots first led to the idea of rewarding a character or collective representative of Athletic and Gipuzkoa.

The first prize Gipuzkoa Zurigorri by way of recognition was precisely for Athletic Club itself, but that Sunday in June in the Tinglado de Tolosa the festive day made clear that the initial doubts had become a precious bet.

Gipuzkoa Zurigorri has maintained its celebratory character until gradually becoming an unavoidable meeting point within the calendar of our Peñas (fans groups). The subsequent appointments of Zarautz and Elgeta in the last two years have made clear the route of this appointment.

On this occasion it was the turn of Eibar and the Peña Txinbera, who took advantage of the celebration of their 20th Anniversary to perfectly fulfil their role as host. Since early morning, the center of Plaza Unzaga and surroundings have had to leave for a day its usual hole of blue and garnet colours by the zurigorris.

The txupinazo at 11.00 A.M. has given way to inflatables for children and a ‘trikipoteo’ (round of drinking pots with Basque music) enlivened by Eibarko Trikitilari Gazteak. In the headquarters of the Peña Txinbera, in the curve of Zezenbide, has taken place the delivery of the awards that this year have gone to two Eibartarras: Markel Susaeta, as could not be otherwise, and the former player of the women’s team Maria Luke.

Athletic Club has been represented in the act by the directors Goyo Arbizu and Begoña Castaño who, in turn, have been accompanied by the ex-players Carlos Gurpegui and Jose Mari Argoitia. After the relevant lunch, then it was the turn of the popular meal in a tent located for the occasion in the stands of Unzaga.

The afternoon will continue with activities of all kinds, including a mixed exhibition of Basque rural sports, and will end with a concert in the same square with the presence of Los Chimberos and the local groups Eirband and Mugi Panderoa.
