Raúl García’s four goals at Balaídos
Since coming to Athletic in 2015, Raúl García has scored four goals at Balaídos in three consecutive seasons
Athletic Club take on RC Celta at Balaídos this Sunday (14:00 CET). For Raúl García it will be a return to a stadium where he’s had much joy in recent years. The striker has scored four goals in Vigo since becoming a lion in 2015-16.
In his debut season at Athletic, the no.22 scored the winning goal in the 71st minute as the Lions won 0-1 at Balaidos. Rául started off the counter-attack which led to his goal with a long ball to striker Aritz Aduriz, who played it back for Rulo to finish past Celta’s keeper.
Raúl went on to score a brace in 2016-17. His first goal came from a corner which Yeray nodded on to Rulo at the back post, and the striker tucked away a rebound from a powerful Iñaki Williams shot for his second. Mikel Rico finished off the clash with seven minutes to go, ensuring a 0-3 win for the Lions.
The foward followed it up with another goal in the 2017-18 edition of the fixture. However, on this occasion, Athletic left Vigo empty-handed. The Galicians went ahead courtesy of Sergi Gómez and Iagao Aspas hit a double in the space of five minutes to put effectively put the match to bed. Rulo pulled one back, but it was just a consolation goal.
