Muniain: “We have to keep going”

Iker Muniain on the defeat in the Copa final against Real Sociedad: “It’s very hard. But there’s another final on the line, we’re going to give it everything for our fans.”

Captain Iker Muniain stressed the need for the Athletic Club squad to put tonight’s Copa 2019-20 final loss behind them as soon as possible.

Athletic fell to a 0-1 defeat to Real Sociedad at La Cartuja. Nonetheless, the Lions will be able to go again when they face FC Barcelona on April in the 2020-21 final.

“It’s very difficult to take,” Muniain said after the final. “Two months ago we were champions here and now we’re on the other side of the coin.

“Football is like that. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

“Congratulations to Real Sociedad on winning the trophy.”

He continued: “We need to lift our heads up, there are important things at stake this season.

“On the 17th we have another final. We will try our best to win it, we owe it to the fans. We will start working tomorrow.”

As for the loss, Muniain said: “It was very tight, as we expected, with similar chances for both teams. In the end it was all decided by a penalty.”
