De Marcos extends contract until 2023

The defender will be spend a 14th season at Athletic Club after signing a contract extension

Oscar de Marcos has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal, keeping him at Athletic Club until June 30, 2023. The defender signed the contract at Ibaigane on Tuesday morning alongside club president Aitor Elizegi and director of sport Rafa Alkorta.

The right-back arrived at Lezama in the 2009/10 campaign and made his debut that season in a Europa League play-off against Swiss side Young Boys. Now 33 years old, he has made 452 appearances in his 13 years at Athletic, putting him at ninth in the Lions’ all-time appearance makers list. Of the current first-team squad, only Iker Muniain -with 494 matches- is ahead of Oscar in the ranking.

Oscar is one of the captains and symbols of the current squad, in which he continues to play an important role, having played 22 games so far this season, two of them in the Copa and another two in the Supercopa. He has scored one goal this campaign, a strike which was crucial in the comeback win against Real Betis at San Mamés on LaLiga Matchday 18. He has netted 35 career goals as a Lion.
