Athletic Women beat Real Betis to maintain unbeaten run

Iraia Iturregi's side recorded a fourth straight win, beating 2-0 Real Betis at Lezama

Athletic Club Women notched a fourth victory in a row with a comfortable 2-0 win over Real Betis at Lezama on Sunday morning. Iraia Iturregi's side are unbeaten in their last six matches with two draws and four consecutive wins.

It took 30 minutes for the match to really get going, Betis' Asantewaa giving Amaia Peña a scare when she hit the crossbar after a well-worked team move.

Paula Arana put the Lionesses ahead just a minute later, the striker taking advantage of an error from goalkeeper Malena Mieres before chipping the defence with a great left-footed finish.

In the second half, Nerea Nevado hit the back of the net with a left-footed volley to get her first goal of the campaign. Betis pushed hard to pull one back in the closing stages. Fulutudilu causedsome trouble down the left flank and Asantewaa hit the post again in stoppage time.

However, Athletic held out for the win and now have 14 points from their last six games. Next week they will visit FC Barcelona, who have already been crowned this season's champions in addition to reaching the Champions League final.
