Guruzeta signs contract extension through to 2028

The Athletic striker puts pen to paper on a new four-year deal

Athletic Club forward Gorka Guruzeta has signed a four-season contract extension, which will keep him in Bilbao until 30 June 2028.

With 10 goals to his name so far this campaign, Guruzeta is Los Leones' joint top goalscorer in 2023/24 together with Iñaki Williams.

The no.12 signed his new deal at San Mames on Tuesday morning alongside club president Jon Uriarte and director of football Mikel González.

González said that Gorka's style of play makes him "the ideal striker" for Athletic's system.

He continued: "Brilliant tactically, he always chooses the right position. He is precise in the box and has improved his movement in the final third. In short, he is a very complete forward and of great value to us. This is great news and guarantees us a great striker for the next few years."

Upon returning to Athletic for a second spell from SD Amorebieta two years ago, the Donostia native has become a key player for Ernesto Valverde.

In addition to the work he does for the team, he has become more clinical this season, finding the back of the net nine times in LaLiga and once in the Copa. He has already surpassed the six strikes he registered in 2022/23.

With a third of the campaign to go, Guruzeta has already made 26 appearances this season, bringing his Athletic total to 72.

The contract follows the board of directors' policy on new deals and contains a fixed salary structure with bonuses based on objectives.
