The Barakaldo-born player joined the Lezama academy at under-15 level and made his first-team debut under Ernesto Valverde in the 2014/15 season before becoming a regular starter. Seven of Yeray's ten seasons at Athletic have been under the current manager and he has two trophies to his name: the 2019/20 Spanish Super Cup and the 2023/24 Copa.
Mikel González, the club’s general director of football, said the centre-back's continued presence at the club is excellent news.
He added: “Yeray is a reliable performer. He’s a centre-back who wins his duels, has great concentration and a winning mentality. He has shown tremendous resilience in overcoming adversity throughout his career."
