Let’s have look at the lions with the most matches

The celebration of Josu Urrutia’s 52nd birthday (16 seasons in the first team and seven years as a president of the club) is a good reason recall the footballers who have played the most fixtures for the team in Athletic Club’s history. Urrutia (ranked 18th) is currently closing the select group of footballers who have passed the 400 matches barrier wearing the red-and-white shirt.

Together with the legendary José Ángel Iribar, leading the rank with 614 matches, another four footballers (Rojo I, Etxeberria, Iraola and Susaeta) have played more than 500 fixtures.

Among our active players at the moment, only Iker Muniain and Aritz Aduriz (14^th and 15^th with 411 and 407 matches respectively) belong to the small group of 18 players who have taken part in more than 400 fixtures with the red-and-white first team. Getting closer, Mikel San José (3 fewer matches) and Oscar de Marcos (with 389) are the most likely footballers to get past the 400 matches mark.
