Traditionally, Athletic look to start matches on the front foot. The Lions managed to score goals within the first 10 minutes of a game on seven different occasions in the 2020-21 season.
In order of LaLiga Matchday weekends: Iñaki Williams netted before the 10-minute mark in the rescheduled Matchday 2 fixture against FC Barcelona. The striker finished off a great counter-attack in the third minute to give Athletic the lead at San Mamés.
On Matchday 11, Asier Villalibre scored in the ninth minute against Getafe CF, hammering home a header from Alex Berenguer‘s corner.
The latter is next on the list. He opened the scoring at the Ramón de Carranza, finishing off a team move by nutmegging a defender and slotting the ball past the goalkeeper in the fourth minute of Athletic’s 4-0 win over Cádiz CF on Matchday 23.
Villalibre scored in the third minute of the Matchday 26 clash with Granada CF, the Buffalo spun his marker in the box before coolly finishing past the keeper.
Arriving late into the box, left-back Yuri Berchiche smashed in a beautiful volley in the ninth minute against SD Eibar on Matchday 28.
On Matchday 32, Berenguer scored a header in the ninth minute of Athletic’s home victory over LaLiga leaders Atletico Madrid.
Jon Morcillo scored Athletic’s last pre-10-minute goal of the campaign. The winger took advantage of Villalibre’s subtle backheel assist to get on the scoresheet against CA Osasuna on Matchday 35.
