A goal from Budimir made it 2-2 even though Athletic had the win in sight after goals by Morcillo and Sancet
Athletic Club drew 2-2 with CA Osasuna at San Mamés on Saturday night. The Lions were denied a second consecutive victory after Ante Budimir equalised in the 88th minute.
Things couldn’t have started better for Athletic, who scored a minute into the game. It came from a great flowing move that ended with a clever Asier Villalibre backheel teeing up Jon Morcillo, who scored his second in two matches with the help of a deflection.
Athletic missed a couple of chances straight after, Villalibre and Oihan Sancet going close. However, Osasuna recovered from the early goal and struck back. Darko Brasanac headed home at the near post from Juan Cruz’s deflected cross just after the 10th minute.
It looked like Athletic would be awarded a penalty after Sergio Herrera brought down Villalibre in the box, but the striker had strayed narrowly offside in the build-up play.
Sancet went close in the 60th minute but made up for it a minute later, scoring a header to restore the Rojiblancos’ lead. It came from an elaborate move down the right, Oscar De Marcos linking up with Alex Berenguer, whose cross was nodded in by Sancet at the back post.
With thirty minutes left, it seemed as if the win was all but certain. Nevertheless, Enric Gallego, with his first touch of the ball after coming on as a substitute, set up Budimir to make it 2-2 in the 88th minute.
