San Mamés tribute to Iñaki Williams for his record

Two very specific Club Members, together with Muniain and Nico Williams, will take part in the homage

Iñaki Williams will receive a symbolic tribute in front of the San Mamés faithful in honour of the striker becoming the LaLiga player with most consecutive appearances in the competition’s 93-year-long history.

The Athletic striker’s consistency in the domestic competition means he has not missed a single game for more than five years and five months. Williams has accumulated 202 consecutive appearances and will surpass Juan Antonio Larrañaga’s record of 203 in tonight’s match against Deportivo Alavés.

Two Athletic Club members will be present Iñaki Williams with a commemorative shirt with 203 printed on the back. The two members who will take to the pitch alongside Iñaki’s brother Nico Williams and his ‘almost-brother’ and Athletic captain, Iker Muniain.

The first member is Peio Ríos Demesa, who is almost seven years old and was born on December 6 2014, the day Iñaki Williams made his Athletic Club debut. Peio will wear the no.30, the same number the striker wore on his official debut against Córdoba CF. The second member is Iker Manjón Briones, five years old and a member since he was three months old.

Manjón was born on April 19 2016, the day before Iñaki Williams started his record-breaking run and will wear the no.15, the same number the Athletic player wore against Atlético de Madrid on April 20 2016.
