The Cathedral was back in full force and the atmosphere was buzzing as the Lions put on a show for the 40,000 strong crowd.
Athletic took the lead after 14 minutes, launching a counter attack from deep which would see Iñaki Williams whip in a low cross for strike partner Raúl García to put away.
The Yellow Submarine pulled one back in the 31st minute, Francis Coquelin’s shot taking a deflection before going in.
Athletic took control in the second half, with captain Iker Muniain at his magisterial best. It was Muniain who stepped up to convert a penalty in the 75th minute, when VAR spotted a foul on Unai Vencedor in the box.
Muniain was at the heart of the action five minutes later. The midfielder won a penalty, but Alex Berenguer was unable to make it count.
