Goals from Azkona and Amezaga served to overturn la Real's early lead in a vibrant derby
Athletic Club Women came back from a goal down to beat Real Sociedad in front of 3,000 fans at a packed out Lezama.
Ane Azkona, in the first half, and Jone Amezaga, in the second half, were on the scoresheet as the Lionesses overturned Nerea Eizagirre's opener for Real Sociedad. With this victory, David Aznar's side have won every home match this season and continue to climb up the table.
Athletic completely dominated the first 45, their best chance coming via Nahikari García in the 20th minute. Amaiur looked to put Real Sociedad ahead but Naia Landaluze was on hand to deny her.
Eizaguirre put the visitors ahead in the 40th minute, but Athletic struck back soon after as Azkona got a head to Mariana's cross on the stroke of half-time.
The game was lively and open, and the fans in attendance were clearly loving the spectacle. Mariasun Quiñones stopped la Real from going in front again when she was almost caught off-guard by a stray cross.
Nevado and Elexpuru kept threatening down the wings for Athletic, but they couldn't find a breakthrough.
Up stepped Amezaga, who scored a wonder goal in last season's derby. This time around, the winger latched on to a pass from Azkona to score past Lete in the 84th minute.
The Lionesses saw out the match. An important and deserved win as Athletic continue to look up the table.
