Unai Simón, Vivian and Nico Williams called up to Spain squad for the Euro 2024

Athletic Club's goalkeeper, defender and forward are in Luis de la Fuente's squad for this summer's European Championships

Athletic Club players Unai Simón, Dani Vivian and Nico Williams have been named in Luis de la Fuente's squad for Euro 2024 in Germany.

The three footballers will join up with the Spain squad on Saturday 1 June. They will play two friendlies on against Andorra and Northern Ireland, on June 5 and 8 respectively, before travelling to Germany.

This initial list is made up of 29 players, so three footballers will miss out on the final squad.

Iribar at presentation event

Jose Angel Iribar, a member of the Spain side that won the 1964 European Championships, joined Luis de la Fuente as he announced this provisional squad.

The Txopo was asked about a historic campaign in which Athletic Club qualified for next year's Europa League and ended a 40-year wait to lift the Copa.

"It's a great joy and we are celebrating in style," he said.

Iribar also had words of praise for Unai Simón, saying the Zurigorri shotstopper "has a lot of potential and is getting stronger".

He continued: "He has just won the Zamora trophy, he has had a great season and will be a force in this European Championship without any doubt."
