Athletic Club has defeated Granada CF by 3-1 at San Mamés. Susaeta, Iñigo Lekue and San José have been our scores, while Carcela scored for Granada.

With those of today there are 30 points harvested in the Cathedral of 39 possible, which ratifies the strength of the team at home. The victory was important for two main reasons: to remove the bitter aftertaste of the two defeats by two goals to zero harvested this week and, in turn, to remain fighting for the European positions.

The goal has been achieved. In today’s match, the team has quickly forgotten the previous ‘bad habits’ and has taken advantage of the scoreboard, although the joy has lasted very little when Carcela has achieved the equalizer three minutes after Susaeta’s goal.

Lekue scored the second before half-time (and is the second he scores to Granada) and that gave the team peace of mind to face the second half. At first Granada has pushed and created danger in Gorka’s goal, but as the minutes advanced the local superiority has become evident, especially as a result of the third goal, scored by San Jose.

And on Saturday another challenge, this time against Sevilla FC, third classified.

Before the opening whistle of the match a simple act of recognition was made to Ernesto Valverde on the occasion of his recent record of official matches directed in the bench of Athletic Club. President Josu Urrutia has given him a commemorative plaque and, at the same time, Andoni Iraola, the first player from Lezama to make his debut, and Asier Villalibre, the last to do so, have given him a jersey with his surname and the number 292, coinciding with the number of matches that he fulfilled today.

All this on the day when, once again, ten players made in Lezama and another one who has made debut in First Division defending our shirt, have been lined up.
