Well-deserved draw for the red-and-white reserve team against Osasuna B in a contested match they were able to control in the end
Bilbao Athletic were facing a demanding clash against Osasuna B at Tajonar, a stadium where only Second Division B Group II leaders UD Logroñés had been able to get points this season. The point picked up by Joseba Etxeberria’s Cubs confirms that the team is going through a good spell and played a serious match in spite of their long list of injuries, to which Victor San Bartolomé has had to be added today.
In the first half, the strength of both teams was balanced, without noteworthy scoring chances. Osasuna’s forward Calvillo got near the goal on 13 minutes and a shot from Morcillo on 38 minutes went straight to goalkeeper Ivan Martínez’s hands. Those were the only remarkable offensive chances of the first 45 minutes.
The situation changed completely in the second half. On 48 minutes, a ball was stolen in the midfield and it triggered a fast counter-attack that Morcillo finished off brilliantly, giving the Red and Whites a temporary lead. But it was not meant to last long as on 51 minutes, Calvillo, the most incisive of the home players, got in from the right to beat Ezkieta with an angled shot.
Bilbao Athletic moved up their lines in the second half, in an effort to score the winning goal, but Osasuna Promesas remained solid at the back.
In short, a draw that prevents the Red and Whites from getting near UD Logroñés at the top of the standings.
