Athletic Club were defeated 2-1 by Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu. Sabin Merino scored our goal, while Benzema and Morata grabbed goals for Los Blancos.

It was a good game for our team, but they weren’t able to convert chances at key moments of the match. Something which sides like Real Madrid usually make you pay for.

Nevertheless, Athletic was able to overcome sporting difficulties and fatigue, although the first few minutes have become the perfect summary of the match: very good chance cleared by Navas and immediately after 1 -0, early goal as in recent seasons.

The Rojiblancos did not give up and, after overcoming some critical minutes, were able to take control of the match and even tie the game before the break, thanks to Sabin Merino.

The play with Lekue and Eraso as initiators reflected perfectly what this team is: a good group, united and willing to try any challenge as difficult as it seems and do it with the DNA of Lezama nine in the starting line-up and ten at the end of the game.

After the break both teams have had options to untie the score, although maybe the Williams one have been the clearest, one to get ahead on the scoreboard, and another one to tie the game after Morata’s goal at the last minutes of the game. We couldn’t get some points even though we deserved it.

And now comes a ‘more relaxed’ week, no games in between before facing the visiting CA Osasuna, the second derby of the season.

A difficult game, but with the spirit shown at the Santiago Bernabeu the chances of achieving the three points increase exponentially. Hopefully it will be like that.
