Athletic Club - Real Betis

Athletic Club defeated Real Betis 2-0 in San Mamés. Iker Muniain and Aritz Aduriz scored the goals, both in the second half. The desired and long-awaited victory has finally returned to San Mamés. Better late than never. Athletic has done so with all the merit against a rival that will finish the League in positions that give right to play continental competition next season and that, curiously, has been defeated in the two league events of the current season. Our team have been superior for most of the game, even though the very clear chances generated before half-time did not translate into goals. It didn’t look like today was going to be our day either. The second half has started more balanced, although the Betis could not create danger in the rojiblanca area either. Athletic, on the other hand, played right and with a quarter of an hour to go, Iker Muniain headed home a magnificent cross from Lekue. From then on, in strategic plays, the green-and-white team has generated its best scoring options, although a good counter-attack by Aduriz because of a pass of Williams, has brought calm to the stands. The penultimate league meeting takes us, for now on Saturday, to Mendizorroza where we will play the last derby of the season.
