Athletic Club obtained a point in Getafe after tying the game 0-0 in a match with a lot of options to score goals for both teams, but they made too many mistakes. It was not possible for Athletic Club to end the curse of the Coliseum, where Athletic has never won a game. At least the team has earned more points (five) than defeats (three). After six away undefeated matches, we are in 9th place in the Liga until next Sunday, when we will go head-to-head against the Cinderella team of this year’s Liga, Levante UD. This Thursday, we will have a very important game in the Copa Del Rey. If we want to make it to the next step, we are going to have to defeat Albacete Balompié.

It is fair to say that Getafe sacrificed itself more than Athletic, especially early in the game, but the most dangerous plays were created equally by both teams. Miku had the first opportunity of the game, but Iraizoz was ready. Cata Díaz kicked a volley to the stands, and a short time later, Athletic started getting good quality ops, especially one play that was well-organized. Unfortunately, Iraola couldn’t take advantage and he kicked the ball rapidly without any control.

Athletic Club recovered the initiative and we were witness to a game that we are accustomed to watching on a regular basis that involved control, continuous approach to the adversary line and precision. Getafe was also plagued by these mistakes. Any option of goals had disappeared from the field and the minutes passed by with no results for any team. Casquero shot twice over the net of Iraizoz, and a shot from Barrada was blocked by Iraizoz without any problem.

The second half was more active. Athletic started the second half playing poorly and Getafe was in control of the game. Getafe had a sweet opportunity to score a goal, but Rafa kicked the ball too high in the 52nd minute of the game. Getafe was superior but their forward players, Luis García and Guiza, couldn’t score a goal. In the 54th minute of the game, San José replaced De Marcos.

Toquero tried to score the first goal for the game, but Moyá was alert and halted Toquero’s shot. With a line composed of three defenders, Athletic slowly advanced meter by meter. In the 65th minute, Toquero was replaced by Llorente who had returned after being on the side line due to an injury. There were certainly plenty of open spaces to create opportunities.

Protagonism rendered itself known when Guiza kicked a chilena without any success in the 66th and in the 70th, the referee didn’t allow Iturraspe’s goal because Javi Martinez was offside. In the 71st, Miku sent a head shot out of the field and Susaeta also had a great chance to score a goal, but he hit the post twice. Iraola passed the ball to Susaeta and the referee called an offside when Iraola headed towards the net…it wasn’t an offside. Miku finished off the 79th by hitting the post after a corner kick.

Many occasions presented a clear chance to score by both teams. Moyá stopped Aurtenetxe’s shot and Iraizoz did the same with Barrada’s shot. Ibai substituted for Muniain and Diego Castro substituted for Guiza. But these two changes did not emit serious consequences to the game.
