Athletic Club continues its overwhelming streak in the UEL and on this occasion they’ve defeated the powerful Schalke 04 2-4 in the first leg of the quarter-finals. It’s a great victory, yet another important one, this time at the Veltins Arena in a match in which both teams have had chances to score even more goals.

Llorente, twice, De Marcos and Muniain scored the goals that lessened the impact of Raúl’s brace. Everything in a rather balanced match in the first half, that ended in a draw at nil, to give way to a better beginning for the locals in the second half (2-1) and in a last stretch of Athletic superiority until completing an outcome that makes us optimistic in view of the second leg in San Mamés next Thursday.

The match at The Cathedral will guarantee an excellent atmosphere after what’s been lived today in Gelsenkirchen.

Irurraspe will not be available for the home match as he was booked with a third yellow.
