Athletic Club has been unable to continue their streak in the Liga and ended the year with a bitter aftertaste having being defeated 0-2 by Zaragoza, with goals by Apoño, after an innocent penalty, and Postiga in the final stretch of the first half.

Until the goal arrived the game was balanced, quite intense and two teams that wanted to pressure above and not leave the rival much margin for manoeuvring. This time the rojiblancos were not able to get ahead on the scoreboard and although they did not deserve to go on the break with that much disadvantage, upon start-up, and in spite of the almost total control, the lack of depth has made the comeback almost impossible.

Igor Martinez has disputed his first minutes in the current Liga and San Jose, Muniain and Amorebieta are the players who are on the wait for another warning that would send them into the sanction zone.

Such as things are, our team is just as far from relegation as from European positions, six points, but one thing that can’t be denied is that the defeat has been an unexpected step backward.
