Athletic Club - CD Leganés

Athletic Club drew 1-1 with CD Leganés at San Mamés. Aduriz and Szymanowski scored the goals. At the end of the match, a simple tribute was paid to Gorka Iraizoz, captain of our team, after ten seasons at the club.

The first half was dominated by the Red and Whites with only one goal, in the opening stages when Aduriz finished off a Balenziaga’s cross-cum-shot, and the odd chance to put the game back on track.

The second half didn’t start in the same way and the Madrid-based players levelled the game and made the most of their two chances.

The final stretch was a monologue of our team, but without much skill in the final definition. First draw of the second half of the season and we have to keep fighting.

On a day of simultaneous scores, it turns out that everything remains as it was a week ago, i.e. Villarreal fifth, Athletic Club sixth and Real Sociedad seventh. The three contenders for the two direct places and a hypothetical third, which would come if Deportivo Alavés do not win the Copa, have finished the day thinking that a win would have catapulted them in the face of their rivals’ slip-ups.

But all three will be playing for the same finish line. Difficult, in the purest theory of rivals to beat, but not impossible.
