Athletic Club defeated Málaga CF 1-0 at San Mamés. Raúl García, from the penalty spot, scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half.

The home run continued against Málaga, not without effort, as is the case in every game in this league, and once the good start from the Blue and Whites had been overcome. The passing of the minutes tinged the initiative with red and white and Málaga started to take steps backwards.

The second half went along similar lines, with a good start from the visitors and red and white domination until Raúl García converted a penalty in the 72nd minute. Málaga took a step forward and for moments it was clear how important it is to have a couple of days more rest than the opposition, or a couple of days less, as we were again lucky enough to have. Fortunately, Athletic withstood their opponents’ harassment to reach their 13th consecutive unbeaten league game, bringing their total to 19 in all competitions, a record that takes us back to the early 90s of the last century and which, moreover, on this occasion has been achieved for the first time in the same season.

All this in the 100th game at the new San Mamés, a venue that has seen 61 wins, 21 draws and 18 defeats. It is true to say that, in keeping with the trend, the negative away streak has a chance to be broken on Sunday, at 12:00 at Anoeta, in a derby with a European flavour.
