Athletic Club defeated Sevilla FC 1-0 at San Mamés. Mikel Vesga scored the only goal of the game on the stroke of half-time.

A well-deserved win against the second-placed team, a team that arrived at La Catedral with only one game lost and three goals conceded. However, with today’s match at San Mamés, it is the eighth consecutive league game in which they have come away empty-handed.

A match of great intensity, with a first half in which both teams wanted to take the initiative and in which Athletic struggled in one section as the Andalusians frequently found space. Athletic, on the other hand, found a reward for their arrivals and in the final stretch, Vesga beat the visitors’ goalkeeper with a high shot.

In the second half, our team read the game perfectly and, as well as claiming the second penalty of the game -on both occasions for handball- they reached Rico’s area with more fluency. In contrast, the visitors had more difficulty in creating chances.

Laporte’s 150th La Liga appearance and Raúl García’s 100th as an Athletic player. With today’s three points, our team now have 11 points in the league standings and CD Leganés will be the next hurdle in the competition, although in the middle we have Ostersunds FK awaiting us in the UEL.
