Athletic Club defeated Real Betis Balompié 1-0 at San Mames. Iker Muniain, in the first half, was the scorer of the only goal. With the win, as tight as deserved, our team achieved a seventh consecutive match without a defeat in LaLiga, with four victories and three draws.

The match met the ideal preconditions: good attendance, a splendid atmosphere in the stands after the recent encounters and even the presence of rain, an addition usually associated with vibrant football days at The Cathedral.

And the truth is that it did not disappoint, because since the initial whistle the zurigorris managed to maintain a good high pressure, an optimal handling of the ball and a great ability to generate danger in front of the goalkeeper.

Unfortunately, to the half-time the advantage was only a goal, thanks to the precise shot of Muniain from inside the area in the minute 21st. Athletic had been worthy of finishing with a looser advantage, even with a difference that could leave the fixture sentenced.

This was not the case and in the second half several steals of the ball in compromised areas generated more options, however, these didn’t end up successfully. Real Betis took a step forward and has improved its possession, although their clearest chance of scoring, practically the only one, came in with a free-kick from Canales well saved by Herrerin.

From that moment on the team has shown its defensive and supportive qualities and, very well sheltered from the stands, has achieved three golden points to get more distance from the last positions of the classification.

The next fixture will take place next Saturday in Anoeta. It will be the first derby of the second round and De Marcos won’t be able to attend it as he was shown the red card in the final minutes of this afternoon’s match.

Before the date in Anoeta, we cannot forget that this Wednesday, at 07:00p.m. in San Mames, we have an attractive match of the Women’s Cup against Atletico de Madrid.
