Sandro struck in the second half to see the home side pick up all three points against a subdued Athletic Club
SD Huesca beat Athletic Club 1-0 at El Alcoraz on Wednesday night, a second-half effort by Sandro seeing the home side to victory.
Huesca came into the match with the LaLiga Santander status on the line and played like their life depended on it, constantly putting the Lions under pressure.
Athletic remain in the middle of the table, with just two matches, against Real Madrid and Elche, left in the 2020-21 season
Huesca came out firing and did not let up for the entire 90 minutes. Rafa Mir and David Ferreiro tested Unai Simon, but the Athletic keeper was difficult to beat in the first half, making a couple of great saves.
Denis Vavro hit the crossbar from his own half when he tried to catch Simón by surprise from a free-kick.
Athletic only had three chances during the match: a header by Iñigo Martínez, an Oihan Sancet effort in the box which missed the target and a long-range effort by Unai López which Alvaro Fernández kept out with an acrobatic save.
Sandro’s goal came on the hour mark, the forward firing past Simón from the edge of the box. The home side then set about shutting up shop, barely giving Athletic a sniff at goal for the rest of the encounter.
