Sestao River Club - Athletic Club

Athletic have rounded off their run of matches against Bizkaia sides with another victory – albeit a closer one – against Sestao River.

The match finished 0–2 but should have been more emphatic given the Lions' dominance.

Gorka Guruzeta paved the way with a perfect header from a set-piece, his second in consecutive matches.

Oihan Sancet sealed the win in the 90th minute following a back-pass from Robert Navarro. A 0–2 scoreline that should have been more emphatic given their dominance.

Las Llanas presented a different kind of test, due to the pitch, the atmosphere and, naturally, the opposition's higher league status.

Although Guruzeta opened the scoring from an Adama Boiro corner early on in the 2nd minute, it wasn’t until late that Athletic scored again.

Athletic did have chances though. Former Rojiblanco Aitor Iru was in fine form in goal for Sestao as Alex Berenguer, Alvaro Djaló and Selton went close to finding the net. The attacking midfielder had a chipped effort cleared off the line by a Sestao defender.

The incisive Johaneko stood out in the second half. The left-back threatened with  strike that hit the post and had two further attempts thwarted by the home goalkeeper.

Sancet made his presence felt in the final quarter. His first clear-cut chance was cleared by a defender, but he struck home the second time of asking, finishing off a counter-attack started by Iker Monreal and a link-up with Robert Navarro. 

Sestao River defended well, but barely troubled Alex Padilla or Mikel Santos.
