Real Sociedad B - Bilbao Athletic

After four consecutive league matches being unable to get the three points, Athletic Club’s reserve team have prevailed this evening 0-2 against Real Sociedad B in the match corresponding to the 18th matchweek of the Second Division B Group II, the last fixture in 2019.

The beginning of the Basque derby was a case of trial and error for both teams. Robert Navarro gave it a try with a strike from outside the box before the 20-minute mark, but his shot was off target. The response came from Zarraga, hitting a weak shot that was gathered by Unai Aguirre. But it was Morcillo who, after a well-placed cross from Zarraga on 22 minutes, had no mercy and scored with a header. Just six minutes later, Sancet was sent off after being shown a second yellow card, leaving Joseba Etxeberria’s side at a numerical disadvantage. Jeremy Blasco had a fine chance to equalise but, after a dribble in the box, he sent the ball over Ezkieta’ goal.

Once into the second half, Rojo substituted Morcillo in the first change made by Joseba Etxeberria. With little more than 20 minutes to go, an offence committed by Guruzeta over Vencedor was punished with a straight red card, so the squads had the same number of players again. Soon afterwards, in a counter-attack launched by Víctor, Guruzeta scored the second goal of the evening at Reale Arena before being substituted by Baqué. The last change made by our boss consisted of bringing on Prados for Víctor.

Having brought 2019 to a close with their last official match, Bilbao Athletic will open the new year at Lezama, playing against Deportivo Alavés’ reserve team in the fixture corresponding to the 19th matchweek in the Second Division B Group II, which will take off on Saturday 4 January at 4.00 pm.
