Athletic Club has been defeated 2-1 by RCD Espanyol in Cornellà-El Prat. The goal of our team was scored by Eraso, while the ones of the local team were scored by Diop and Caicedo.

The good period in the domestic league, four consecutive victories in four matches, was ended since they weren’t able to keep the advantage of the goal scored in the first half of the match. The game started well as Eraso had scored the first goal before the thirtieth minute. The match was under control before the interval.

Unfortunately, in the second half, during a corner delivered by Espanyol, hosts took the advantage and Diop even the score. Immediately after, while the team was trying to regain the control, in a counter-attack Caicedo finished scoring their second goal.

From that moment a double handicap took possession of the match; on the one hand, our squad couldn’t create dangerous chances even if they were bossing the ball, and on the other hand, there was every kind of continuous interruption during the last twenty minutes of the game. It’s been a long time since we have seen something so severe in one of our matches.

After all it has been a good lost chance to close the gap with the higher qualified teams but there are still eight matchdays left in which to fight to get into the European positions. Meanwhile, there is a competition break to recharge ahead of the last challenges of the season.
