Athletic Club has paid dearly for their weak starts in both halves, mainly the second, and has not been able to defeat RCD Espanyol in Cornellá. Víctor Sanchez on two occasions and Sergio Garcia scored the goals for the locals, while De Marcos and Ibai scored for the visitors.

In the first half, Athletic Club knew how to react to the goal by Espanyol, while it returned the initial inertia and equalized before the break thanks to a goal by Oscar De Marcos. Even with a nil-nil, the referee dodged a direct red for a clear hand by Colotto.

However, the beginning of the second half has been definitive for the outcome of the match, since Espanyol’s greater intensity translated into two goals. The last reaction and magnificent goal by Ibai from a free kick have just not been enough.

The next challenge will not be easy either, on Thursday against Real Betis Balompié in San Mamés; a good option to retake the way to victory.
