Athletic Club has been defeated by Malaga CF, 1-0, in La Rosaleda, in the inaugural matchday of the 2014-2015 Liga. Though our team was worthy of scoring, there was just no way.

Luis Alberto, in the final stretch of the first half, scored the only goal of the match after finishing off his own penalty rebound from Iraizoz into an empty net.

Our team bore the brunt during most of the game, but it lacked clarity at the end of the field. If this wasn’t enough of a handicap, the referee disallowed a goal by Iraizoz who headed in a free kick from Ibai in extra time. The later attempts at an explanation did not convince anyone.

And with no time for complaining, little time between this recently finalized match and the upcoming one on Wednesday in a packed San Mamés against SSC Napoli with the hopes and intention of continuing in Europe.
