Athletic Club were beaten 2-0 away by Sevilla FC. Aleix Vidal and Bacca were the goalscorers. The final result, which was already on the scoreboard 20 minutes into the game, meant that the red-and-whites were always playing catch-up, with chances of closing the gap before the break but, having not managed to make anything of them, the second half was all in vain. The locals drew on their experience and maintained their advantage.

The downside was the injury to Iker Muniain, the extent of which has yet to be determined, and the fifth yellow card for Laporte, which will prevent both of them from lining up against Valencia on Thursday at San Mamés.
